ON THE SEVEN PETITIONS OF THE LORD'S PRAYER

The illustrated book I "Nature" is to be understood as a prologue to the Lord's Prayer.

This book refers to customs and beliefs that are part of the common heritage in my homeland.

Everything originated from the collection of images from a long and fulfilling life. I see myself, the author of the texts accompanying the pictures, as a photographer, an amateur photographer. To depict our beautiful world and honor the Creator in the process – that is my true aim. Here I tell you something about my home. Everything I can show you in pictures has a long history. A great deal happened in the first five days of creation. Our calendar is based on 13.5 billion years. This isn't a contradiction; it's simply a matter of different understandings of time. Nature itself is a book that tells the story of these events. A colossal project is underway. Someone has brought it to life. For you and for me. So that we can enjoy it. And participate in what is still in the making.

PICTURE BOOK II "LIFE FAITH" can also be understood as an introduction to the Lord's Prayer.

This book refers to customs and beliefs that are part of the common heritage in my homeland.

Life in Lower Bavaria is shaped by faith in the good God who created us, redeemed us, and made us holy. Therefore, it is good to preserve our culture while simultaneously exploring new paths. In my book "Homeland - Our Life, Our Faith," I highlight the connections between the culture of understanding God and the endearing way of life in this region, characterized by the Danube and the rolling hills of our beautiful homeland.

In Munich, on Pettenkoferstrasse, is the headquarters of the organization "Missio." This aid organization focuses its attention on people who have never heard of our Lord Christ. The aim is to proclaim the Good News to these people and, at the same time, to improve their often dire living conditions. In one of its projects, Missio provided work for talented local artists, thus raising awareness of their skills. Many of their artworks are displayed in the Missio chapel in Munich.

PICTURE VOLUME III HOMELAND – WHERE YOUR NAME IS HOLY

About the first petition of the Lord's Prayer

This book was deliberately designed with the Lord's Prayer in mind.

One could assume that the first petition expresses what, so to speak, forms the basis for all the other petitions.

We could bring heaven to earth...

and secure the earth to the sky,

if your happiness were also my happiness,

Your suffering is my suffering too

Your joy is also my joy,

Your fate is also my destiny

The author is unknown to me.

PICTURE VOLUME IV HOME – WHERE YOUR KINGDOM AWAITS

On the second petition of the Lord's Prayer

This is one of the three requests that God prioritizes through His actions.

At the same time, we can expect the fulfillment of this request as a gift.

The book "Thy Kingdom Come"—as I'm now calling it for short—is about whether we are willing to participate in building the Kingdom of God that the Lord offers us. There are many people who, as politicians, teachers, priests, but also as businesspeople, employees, or students, are working toward a future where everyone has equal rights.

We—yes, we are the children of God. And when the Bible speaks of the "chosen ones," it doesn't refer to some kind of elite; no, we can know that we are all chosen. Chosen for life. And that means we can all confidently hope for His "kingdom of peace." Let us say, "Your kingdom come." And I think that while members of other religions may use different words, they mean exactly the same thing. The second volume of the album series on the Lord's Prayer is dedicated to this theme. The Beatitudes are the signposts for such a way of life, which we are to pray for and simultaneously bring about ourselves. There, poverty is praised as a virtue. And given our careless handling of resources, this exhortation seems particularly relevant today. The second petition of the Lord's Prayer is ultimately about our relationships with our fellow human beings. We remember that the kingdom of peace is God's will. But we ourselves should also do something to ensure that our longing for peace is fulfilled.

First of all, we, as those who are materially very well off, are called upon to uncover and denounce the abuses and to use our means to oppose the injustice.

PICTURE BOOK V - HOME IS WHERE YOUR WILL IS RESPECT

On the third petition of the Lord's Prayer

In the third of the three petitions, which focus on the Lord's concerns, it is made abundantly clear: Listening to God is of utmost importance to us. The Creator demands our commitment to fulfilling His will. After all, He has given us the freedom to do so. In this way, we can participate in the completion of creation. From very early on, we humans have sought the solution to the riddle of the universe. And we found God. He spoke to us, showed us the way. He died for us and rose again to life. He calls us to love and mercy. And he gives us the strength to do so.

The sequence of the prayer leads directly from the highest authority, from His holy name, to us, who are to prepare the "Kingdom of God." The third petition is about recognizing Him and His will and desiring that precisely what He desires for us may come to pass. The sequence of the three petitions is like an arc stretching from heaven to our earth. The image of the rainbow, which was already seen as a sign of peace between God and humankind in the Old Testament, is fitting. The "parachute jump" from heaven to us corresponds to the Lord's appearance in the world. How much symbolic meaning lies in this arrangement of the important petitions of the Lord's Prayer!

PICTURE BOOK VI BREAD AND GUILT

On the fourth and fifth petitions of the Lord's Prayer

The last four petitions address our human needs.

We should consider these four petitions as significant for ourselves.

They are about asking God for what is essential for our lives:

On the one hand, nourishment, and on the other hand, deliverance from the guilt we continually accumulate.

PICTURE VOLUME VII TEMPTATION AND REDEMPTION

On the sixth and seventh petitions of the Lord's Prayer

The last two petitions of the prayer,

which is actually quite short even though it encompasses the entire relationship between God and us humans,

are meant to remind us that we are constantly tempted and—in order not to fall into a dangerous vicious cycle—constantly need His forgiveness.

Whatever temptation has held us captive, there is redemption.
But we must ask for it ourselves.
A blanket redemption—where no one is without guilt—is unlikely.
